We all know how unusual and sometimes difficult 2020 was, but 6kites wanted to be sure and keep up with our Pledge 1% activities and help out in our community through whatever means we could find.
After much deliberation, we determined that the best way to help was through financial donation. It was very disappointing to all of us in that we could not participate in person as we have always done in the past, but everyone did their best individually to help where possible.
There are many great organizations helping people and we took some time to identify a few we felt could benefit with our financial help.
The first is an organization very close to our hearts, as a long time friend of 6kites was very active with Coal Creek Meals on Wheels. Sadly she passed away a few years ago, but we wanted to keep her memory alive so we donated in her name.
Meals on Wheels is a national organization managed at the chapter level. The Coal Creek chapter serves the communities of Lafayette, Louisville, Superior and Erie, Colorado. They provide daily nutritious meals and related support services to members of our community in need, helping them to live with dignity in their own homes.
Our donation will provide hot meals and daily well-checks to a neighbor in need for 1 year. Many of us also support Meals on Wheels with personal donations.
We also maintained our relationship with the Arc of Adams county. The Arc is an independent advocacy organization serving individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) within Adams County Colorado.
Every year around Christmas, 6kites purchases gifts and gift cards for a needy family assigned to us by the Arc. In 2020, we sponsored a family of 4, a mother and her 3 sons. We purchased clothing and personal items as well as some special gifts each of the family members was hoping to receive.
We also provided additional gift cards so they family could provide themselves with some of life’s essential items. The family was very appreciative and we are very proud to be part of supporting the Arc of Adams County.
Here are my wonderful daughters helping wrap all those presents.
Our next donation was to a new organization established by friends of 6kites. A way thru is a non-profit organization focused on bridging the gap between mental health services and the people who need it most.
As a new non-profit organization 6kites donation will provide valuable seed money in helping get this important work rolling. Mental Heath resources are out of price range and inaccessible for too many people. A way thru will remove the financial barriers that prevent individuals and families from getting the help they want and need.
Worth mentioning, is our donation to Coal Creek Meals on Wheels, was done through another incredible event, Colorado Gives Day. Colorado Gives Day is an annual statewide movement to celebrate and increase philanthropy in Colorado through online giving.
Donations are accepted through ColoradoGives.org. This past year in a 24 hour period, the people of Colorado raised a whopping $50,050,610 for local nonprofits, breaking all records and expectations.
All of the organizations we helped this year were local to the front range in Colorado and have an ongoing or personal connection to 6kites. We believe in helping our local community first and supporting people any way we can.
